Hospice Eligibility

Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island offers hospice care to adults, children and infants with life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, AIDS, end-stage heart and lung disease, kidney disease, liver disease and neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's and Lou Gehrig's diseases.

Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans cover hospice care. Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island provides services regardless of a patient's ability to pay.

Most reimbursement sources require a prognosis of six months or less if the illness runs its normal course and for patients who are not seeking aggressive curative treatment. Individuals who live beyond the six-month prognosis continue to receive hospice care if approved by a physician.
